Boots are the most distinctive category in our casual range. The basis is the Dr. Martens 1460 – a boot from 1960 with eight eyelets, Goodyear-welted, featuring yellow stitching and an AirWair sole. Around this, we’ve built a range of derivative versions: Crazy Horse and Pascal leathers, platform models, insulated styles, and silhouettes such as the Sinclair, Jadon and Anistone.

1460 and family

The classic 1460 Smooth is a starting point for comparing the family. Selected Pascal versions use Virginia leather, while Crazy Horse versions have an oiled finish that develops character with wear. Jadon and Sinclair offer platform options, and selected fleece-lined versions add insulation. Check the full product name for the actual construction.

Breaking in and durability

Boots require patience – the first two weeks are the breaking-in phase, which is best done gradually and whilst wearing thick socks. The Goodyear construction means that the sole can be replaced, so a well-maintained pair will last for years. It’s worth conditioning the leather regularly, and with oiled versions, avoid aggressive cleaning as much as possible.

Women’s, men’s and unisex

Most 1460 models are unisex boots in UK sizes, alongside which we stock separate women’s versions with a narrower fit and a lower upper. If you’re unsure about your size, bear in mind that Dr. Martens only make whole sizes – if your foot is ‘half a size’ between sizes, you should usually go down a size.
