Vacuum flasks at RunColors
The thermos flask is Stanley’s oldest and most recognisable product – the brand has been manufacturing it in virtually the same form since 1913. The classic green Legendary Bottle, with its steel body and a cup that screws into the cap, remains the benchmark for the entire category to this day. It’s the perfect companion for trips, in the mountains, on a building site and anywhere else where you want a hot drink to stay hot for several hours.
Legendary Bottle – why it works
The design is deliberately simple: a double-walled stainless steel construction, a vacuum between the walls, and a minimum of moving parts. The cap doubles as a cup, so there’s no need to carry an extra cup. Stanley claims that hot drinks will stay hot for up to a dozen or so hours, depending on the model and capacity.
How to keep the contents warm for longer
Preheating the flask makes the biggest difference: pour in boiling water, wait a minute and pour it out before adding your drink. A flask filled to the brim retains its temperature significantly longer than one filled halfway, as there is less air inside. Opening it every few minutes is what costs the most.
Cleaning and durability
Wash thermos flasks by hand, using warm water and washing-up liquid – over time, the dishwasher can damage the painted finish and the seal in the cap. For stubborn odours, leaving bicarbonate of soda in the flask overnight helps. The seals are replaceable, and the body itself will last for decades with normal use.
