Children’s jackets and vests at RunColors
This is the most technical category in our children’s section. It centres on the Finnish brand Reima – a brand that has been designing clothing for decades for children who spend time outdoors whatever the weather. Here you’ll find between-seasons jackets, waterproof jackets with a membrane, hybrid jackets and full-body winter snowsuits.
Reima and weather-proof technology
Reima categorises its ranges according to their intended use: the Tec range comprises clothing with a membrane and taped seams, designed for rain and snow. The key specifications are waterproofing (measured in millimetres of water column) and breathability – the higher both values, the longer a child can stay outdoors without getting wet or overheating.
A jacket or a jumpsuit
A snowsuit is the best choice for very young children who spend a lot of time sitting and rolling around in the snow – it keeps their backs covered and prevents snow from getting into the waistband. From around the age of four, a jacket and trousers combination becomes more practical, as it allows for adjustments to their clothing and makes using the toilet easier.
Layers and size
Build an outdoor outfit in layers: a suitable base layer, a fleece or sweatshirt where needed, and a jacket. Check the jacket’s construction and intended use, then choose sizing based on the child’s height and the layers worn underneath. Leave appropriate room without making movement difficult.
