Winter hats at RunColors
A beanie is the simplest way to retain heat – a disproportionate amount of heat escapes through an uncovered head. In this category, you’ll find knitted Fjällräven hats featuring the iconic logo, as well as technical On models made from merino wool, which are also designed for running in cold weather.
Merino wool or acrylic
Merino wool keeps you warm even when damp, is virtually itch-free and doesn’t retain odours for long – it’s the best choice if you’re looking for a hat to wear during exercise. Acrylic and blended fabrics are cheaper, more resistant to stretching and easier to wash, but they don’t cope as well with sweat. For city wear, either option will do.
Style: with or without a turn-up
A hat with a turned-up cuff has a double layer of fabric over the ears – the area where the cold is felt most keenly. Models without a cuff are lighter and lie flat, so they fit better under a hood. Longer, looser styles are a matter of style, not warmth.
For training and everyday use
A thin merino hat is ideal for running in chilly weather – it keeps you warm without making you overheat after a few kilometres. In freezing conditions, a thicker knitted hat is better. It’s also worth considering ear muffs if you find a full-head hat uncomfortable. Wash on a wool cycle and dry flat.
