Socks at RunColors
A sock is the only layer between your foot and your shoe, so it affects comfort more than most people realise. We stock three ranges: cotton socks for everyday wear, woollen socks for the colder months, and technical running socks from On and Brooks. They’re selected to match the shoes we sell.
The material matters
Compare the fibre blend for the intended use. Cotton, merino wool and synthetic blends handle moisture and feel different against the foot. Check the product description, cushioning and fit rather than treating all socks as interchangeable.
Sock height
Short socks disappear inside the shoe and go well with low-top sneakers, but with a stiffer upper they can rub against the heel. Ankle-length socks are the safest, most versatile choice. Higher styles protect the calf in combat boots and hiking boots, and in streetwear they are sometimes worn deliberately, with the top peeking out.
For running
These running socks feature flat seams, reinforced heels and midfoot areas, and are anatomically designed to fit the left and right feet. They do not ride up inside the shoe or create creases, which are the most common cause of chafing over longer distances. This is one of the cheapest ways to improve your running comfort.
Size and washing instructions
Socks come in a range of sizes – if they’re too big, they’ll bunch up under your foot; if they’re too small, they’ll be too tight and will wear out more quickly. Wash woollen socks on the woollen cycle and dry them flat. Do not use fabric softener on technical socks, as it clogs the fabric’s moisture-wicking fibres.
