Hooded tops at RunColors

A hoodie is the most versatile item in your wardrobe: warmer than a T-shirt, less formal than a jacket, and it goes with everything in your shoe collection. In this category, you’ll find both classic pull-over hoodies and zipped-up styles, in weights ranging from light spring fabrics to thick, brushed-on-the-inside fabrics.

Pullovers and zip-up hoodies – which to choose

A pull-over hoodie is warmer because there’s no opening at the front, and it holds its shape better. A zip-up hoodie gives you more control over your temperature and is easier to take off without messing up your hair – that’s a practical difference if you’re wearing it as a mid-layer. In both cases, it’s worth checking whether the hood has a double layer of fabric; that way, it won’t sag.

New Balance, Kaotiko and On

New Balance is known here for its classic, sporty sweatshirts in muted colours – made from sturdy fleece with a prominent logo. Kaotiko leans towards streetwear: a looser fit, washed-out colours and larger graphics. On offers technical styles that are lighter and more fitted, designed as a layer for training on cooler days.

Weight and cut

The weight of the sweatshirt fabric is the deciding factor: 280–320 g/m² is suitable for spring and autumn, whilst 350 g/m² and above is for winter, to wear under a jacket or on its own. The oversized fit features dropped shoulders and a wider torso; if you’d prefer a sweatshirt that doesn’t add bulk, look for the ‘regular’ description. We give the measurements for each size in centimetres.

Washing and durability

Wash the sweatshirt inside out at 30 degrees – high temperatures flatten the brushed fabric and the sweatshirt loses its softness. Do not tumble dry, as the ribbed cuffs and hem will lose their elasticity. If the sweatshirt has a print, avoid ironing over the design; if necessary, iron through a cloth.
