Shorts at RunColors
We’ve divided shorts into two categories here. The first comprises training shorts – lightweight, with a lining and a mobile phone pocket, designed mainly for running by Brooks and New Balance. The second comprises everyday shorts: cotton, longer and looser-fitting, from Kaotiko and Fjällräven. You’ll find both on this page.
Running shorts
Three things are key here: length, the inner layer and the pockets. Shorter styles (13–18 cm in the crotch) offer the greatest freedom of movement, whilst longer ones protect against chafing on the thighs. A sewn-in mesh panel or a tight-fitting inner layer replaces underwear. The zipped back pocket holds a mobile phone without it bouncing around whilst running.
Everyday shorts
Casual styles are longer, usually reaching the knee or just above it, and made from cotton or sturdier outdoor fabrics. Fjällräven designs them with trips in mind – featuring sturdy pockets and reinforcements. Kaotiko opts for a loose fit and a washed-out colour palette, in keeping with the rest of its collection.
Length and size
With shorts, the most important factor is the leg length, which we specify in centimetres for each product – it’s worth comparing this with a pair you already own. Training shorts should be bought in your usual size; for casual styles, if you want them to fit loosely, some people opt for a size larger.
